Shorinji Kempo 2004 Toronto "Kickathon"
On May 10, 2004, Shorinji Kempo members in the Toronto region took part in the 9th annual charity "Kickathon" event. The Kickathon event represents the Kaiso Day activity for Toronto Branch and this year we were aided by the members of Eglinton Branch, Leaside Branch* and Huronia Branch*.
As is our custom, we performed 300 successive kicks in return for sponsorship. Financial support came from
our families, friends, neighbours and colleagues. Their generous support allowed us to raise $8,000 - a new record
amount. The Kickathon has now raised a total of $44,500 since its inception in 1996.
The money will be donated to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation - a charity that supports
counselling and treatment work for drug addicts and engages in basic research into the causes of addiction.
Kaiso hoped that Shorinji Kempo would foster the development of individuals who would lead full lives and play an active role in improving the world. It is our earnest hope that all members of the worldwide Shorinji Kempo family take part in annual Kaiso Day events. Kaiso Day greatly benefits our local communities and we can all build on this idea in our everyday lives.
